Mudpie Moon

When you look at the moon without binoculars or a telescope, it looks like it’s covered with spots or blotches. These spots are actually “craters” that look like bowl-shaped holes that were caused by meteorites crashing into the Moon.

Try this to make your own crazy craters. You’ll want to keep this one outside – it can get really messy!

What You’ll Need:

  • Aluminum pie plate
  • Metal spoon
  • Paper cup
  • Mud or water and some fine clay-rich soil or drywall plaster

Tips:

Sprinkle the smooth muddy moon surface with flour or light sand before making the craters.  This will make it look even more authentic!
